The Sitara CPU family from Texas Instruments, starting with the AM18x, is specifically designed for industrial applications and has continuously evolved over the years.
The latest processor generation, the AM65xx family, offers a true powerhouse of computing power with up to 4x Cortex®-A53 cores (2x dual core clusters) and three PRUs. The variety of interfaces is particularly useful for industrial applications such as MIPI- CSI for connecting camera systems and 2x CAN-FD interfaces for industrial communication. The main feature are the three PRUs, by which up to 6 - real time capable Gigabit Ethernet ports for fieldbus systems such as Profinet, Ethercat and Ethernet/IP are realizable.
Due to the growing use of IoT and Industry 4.0 solutions, the number of participants to be connected in a network is also constantly increasing. Ethernet-based fieldbus systems allow, for example, the direct connection of an office network with an industrial network. This bridges the gap between these two worlds and simplifies communication between them.
In older fieldbus systems, an Ethernet-based network topology is easier to implement and expand due to the topology and wiring complexity.
In the whitepaper you will learn how automation tasks can be solved by an example from practice.
